When ever I get new clients there seems to be the same nutrition questions that I get asked over and over again. Here I will go over them and hopefully these will answer some of you questions too! These questions are based on the 90% of my clients that want to lose weight. Remember you have to be able to read nutrition labels properly in order to follow a nutritional plan.
1. Will eating fat make me fat?
No, eating fat will not make you fat, in fact it will even help you lose fat. That is unless of course you eat too much of it.
2. What do I eat for breakfast if I can’t have cereal?
Meat and nuts breakfast is the best way to go. Eggs are also good, and that means the whole egg, not just the egg white!
3. What am I allowed to drink?
Water, coffee, tea, green tea
4. Can I use artificial sweeteners?
No, you can’t. Your body cannot differentiate between fake and real sugar so it still illicits an insulin response. Plus they also increase your chance to overeat.
5. Potatoes are a vegetable can I eat them?
No, most definitely not. They are high in carbs. Stick with leafy green vegetables.
6. Is there a superfood that is loaded with nutrients?
Yes, some foods have more nutrients than others. Blue berries, kale and broccoli are some of them.
7. Isn’t taking more fish oil than it says on the bottle dangerous?
No, many years ago we naturally consumed a significant more amount of omega 3 through out diet. Taking the recommended amount is quite simply not enough for the majority.
8. Is eating this much protein dangerous?
No, studies have shown that eating the recommended amount is safe. Carbohydrates in excess are not.
9. Am I going to be deficient in anything from following a restrictive diet?
Yes, that is why I recommend taking a good multi vitamin/mineral complex. Fiber might also have to be supplemented for some people.
10. Will I ever be able to go back to eating the way I was?
No, probably not. That’s what got you here in the first place. But as you reach your goal and continue to exercise you are allowed more freedom. I like to say the 80-20 rule or have weekends off. Most people will not want to go to their old eating habits anyways since they feel much better when they follow the low carb approach.
